After scrapping the 2020 physical edition, Just for Laughs will officially be going virtual.

Montreal's annual comedy fest and sister event Juste pour rire will now take place online from October 9 and 10. Organizers stated today that they were reversing their decision to simply postpone their fest instead of hosting an online edition.

Now Just for Laughs will be streamed online in its entirety, while Juste pour rire will combine in-person, pre-recorded and virtual performances.

"More than ever, we want to maintain our position as an industry leader by creating innovative comedy events that allow our artists to work and to make the highest-quality comedy available to the public," Charles Décarie, president and CEO of the Just for Laughs Group, said in the statement. "Despite all the changes our industry has been going through, the most important thing for us is to satisfy our festivalgoers."

The lineup for the digital edition has yet to be announced, but the fest promises to feature conversations, panels, performances and other events. Bill Burr, The Ethnic Show and The Nasty Show, which were all originally slated for 2020, have been rescheduled to be part of the festival's 2021 event.

As previously reported, the Toronto's JFL42 also called off the physical edition of its 2020 festival.
