Further following in the footsteps of their self-confessed heroes, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, Tim & Eric have transitioned their cult sketch show (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) into a feature length film (Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie), spinoff sketch show (Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories) and now Tim & Eric's Zone Theory, the duo's first foray into publishing.
But unlike Odenkirk and Cross's behind-the-scenes document, Mr. Show: What Happened?, Zone Theory continues the oddball, gross-out narrative that Heidecker and Wareheim have been feeding fans for over a decade. Parodying popular lifestyle, spirituality and even cult religion manuals, Tim & Eric's Zone Theory follows the eponymously named life system, promising readers "wellness, happiness and total, absolute fulfillment."
At 322 full-colour pages, Tim & Eric's Zone Theory is a surprisingly light read, as the book focuses more on ludicrous graphs, charts and lists, alongside the duo's brand of low-budget Photoshopped images (many which take up entire pages), with the intent of helping readers reach Tim & Eric's own version of nirvana, called Zone 8.
Featuring seven "Zones" — Friendship, Family, Business, Love, Health, Poems and Food — Tim & Eric offer cutting and bizarre tips, including naked horseplay, bottling and storing your probo (their term for semen), removing harmful tubes from your body and how to get your diarrhoea talking, Tim & Eric have done a masterful job capturing their twisted, peculiar world through Zone Theory.
