Prolific pop parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic has been on a tear over the last week, dishing out a number of videos supporting the just-released Mandatory Fun LP. Today (July 21) marks the final instalment, and with it, he hilariously outlines his "Mission Statement."
The song itself is subtler with its ha-ha's, using a strum-heavy, CSN-styled folk arrangement to point out the everyday absurdities of corporate conversations. What you get are lyrics focusing on how we can "operationalize our strategies" or we could "holistically administrate exceptional synergy" via the wonders of "management philosophy." If you get lost in the jargon, "Judy Blue Eyes"-aping vocal harmony mid-song, paired with an in-the-moment drawing session of a big ol' pile of money, drives home the satirical money-making point.
"I wanted to do a song about all the ridiculous double-speak and meaningless buzzwords that I've been hearing in office environments my entire life," Yankovic told the Wall Street Journal. "I just thought it would be ironic to juxtapose that with the song stylings of CSN, whose music pretty much symbolizes the antithesis of corporate America."
