Beloved comedy series The Office is being reimagined once again for Prime Video — this time in Australia with a female branch manager. Australian comedian and actor Felicity Ward will be playing the part of the cringe-worthy office manager (originally David Brent). This is the 13th iteration of the show originally created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, and the first time a woman will be starring in the lead role.
"I'm very excited about Australia remaking my little show from the turn of the century," said Gervais. "Office politics have changed a bit in 20 years, so can't wait to see how they navigate a modern-day David Brent."
The storyline revolves around Hannah Howard, the managing director of a packaging company called Flinley Craddick, who is informed that her branch will be closing down and her team will have to work remotely due to the post-COVID situation. In an attempt to keep her "work family" together, Hannah resorts to making unrealistic promises and initiating outrageous schemes.
Filming of the eight-part series is scheduled to begin in Sydney in June, and the show will be released as an Amazon Original on Prime Video worldwide in 2024, except in the US. The cast also includes Edith Poor (The Power of the Dog), Steen Raskopoulos (The Duchess), Shari Sebbens (Thor: Love and Thunder), Josh Thomson (Young Rock), Jonny Brugh (What We Do in the Shadows), Pallavi Sharda (The Twelve), Susan Ling Young (Hungry Ghosts), Raj Labade, Lucy Schmit and Firass Dirani (Underbelly).
