It might feel like there's nothing to look forward to while the world is on hold, but rest assured — James Cameron is making damn sure that we get a shit load of Avatar sequels. In fact, Avatar 2 has now finished shooting.
In a new interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger [via Deadline], Cameron explained that he's been hard at work on his lil blue movies despite setbacks from COVID-19.
"We're 100 percent complete on Avatar 2 and sort of 95 percent complete on Avatar 3," Cameron said.
"I can't tell you anything about the story," he continued. "I believe in the mystery and the great reveal."
Avatar 2 is currently set for release on December 16, 2022, with Avatar 3 scheduled for December 20, 2024. The fourth and fifth Avatar movies, should civilization still exist, will be released in 2026 and 2028.
