Toronto-via-Halifax tutor and Jeopardy! whiz kid, Mattea Roach, has continued her winning streak, demolishing the competition in her 21st victory on the Ken Jennings-hosted TV gameshow.
Last night's (May 3) win came with a Canadian twist, after the young champ was posed with the clue: "'Terre de nos aïeux' follows the title in the French version of this anthem." Roach correctly guessed the Canadian national anthem, "'O Canada," wagering $4,999, and bringing her final score to $29,599 and collective winnings to $506,584. (Mattea's challengers came in with $600 and $17,800, respectively, as their final scores.)
Jennings maintained that clues on the gameshow are selected randomly, conceding to Roach's advantage however, noting, "I have to think Mattea might know some of the lyrics to 'O Canada.'"
Roach's winning streak is the fifth-longest in Jeopardy! history, behind James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider and Jennings himself. Roach comes in sixth in terms of winnings earned, and is the most successful Canadian contestant and youngest contestant among the Jeopardy! GOATs.
