Chillerama

Over the years, genre fans have been aching for a new brand of horror and, more importantly, a new type of horror anthology. Four film geeks turned directors tackled the task of bringing new life to this now defunct horror subgenre, only to please genre fans that frequent horror websites on an hourly basis with Chillerama. The somewhat loving ode to Grindhouse films of the'50s and '60s takes place at a drive-in, where the soon to be doomed audience members watch a series of gross-out films rich with TROMA-pillaging antics. Detroit Rock City director Adam Rifkin delivers, and stars in, the most memorable and gratuitous short, Wadzilla, about a giant Sperm taking over Manhattan and blowing its load on any and everything that moves. Tim Sullivan helms the weakest offering of the bunch, I Was A Teenage Werebear, a raunchy and deplorable '50 beach party film that's a mix of Twilight and The Lost Boys, which will surely offend any member of GLAAD. The most well known director, Adam Green (the Hatchet series, Frozen), provides even poorer taste with The Diary of Anne Frankenstein, a short about Adolf Hitler (played hilariously by Joel David Moore) that will make every viewer that laughs feel like they're going to Hell. Lastly, Joe Lynch delivers raunchy and equally disgusting epilogue Zom B Movie, which is about a zombie rapist outbreak at the drive-in theatre. From the descriptions alone, you should know what to expect with Chillerama and if you're willing to sit through a bloated, low-budget horror anthology for your personal enjoyment without being totally inebriated, you deserve a medal. The Blu-Ray special features include a video commentary of the directors gloating about their passion projects, a surprisingly interesting behind-the-scenes featurette on The Diary of Anne Frankenstein and unnecessary trailers for each short.
