Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Sixth Season

Two years ago, Larry David had a near death experience to conclude season five of Curb Your Enthusiasm, with an episode simply titled "The End.” It seemed like a pretty good indication that this fantastic show was packing it in but thankfully, a few months ago fans were treated to another round of the social blunders and misunderstood mind of Larry. The bar has been raised this time around, with Larry and his wife Cheryl giving shelter to the Black family, who lost their home during Hurricane Edna, and introduces uncle Leon (J.B. Smoove), who winds up providing a great deal of laughs throughout the season, especially when going toe-to-toe with Larry over "ejaculate stains” on bed sheets. New lows are reached when Larry steals flowers from a roadside memorial, unintentionally calls Heather Mills a "freak” and, worst of all, asks a fearful Cheryl to call back later during her near death experience because the TiVo repairman is finally at the house. The latter causes Cheryl to finally leave Larry, even after years of standing by him during some horrendous incidents, and the two begin to date other people, and we get to see how Larry manages to screw up other relationships. The season ends with a truly bizarre montage involving Loretta Black (Vivica A. Fox) and raises a lot of questions that need to be answered — hopefully someone can convince Larry to return for a seventh season. The DVD releases of Curb have evolved since their days without any extras, presented in that awkward slide-out packaging. There’s still no commentary but this time around there’s a live audience conversation with Larry and Susie Essman (who plays Susie on the show), as well as a blooper reel, which normally is a standard addition to a comedy DVD but is extra nice here, as outtakes are sparse and seeing Larry break character is rare indeed. The show is the best reason to collect the Curb DVDs, as the extras are still lacking. However, the first four seasons had zero bonus treats so we should be thankful they’re finally coming around.
