Even Kieran Culkin Doesn't Know Roman Roy's Sexuality

Can you blame him?

Until recently, Succession was a show of many mysteries. Now that the conundrum of who will run Waystar Royco has been solved (for now), there are a few more minor secrets that have yet to be uncovered — one of which being Roman Roy's sexuality.

Throughout the show's four seasons, sexual depictions of Roman (played by Kieran Culkin) seem to reveal he's a man of theory, but not necessarily practice. At one point, he holds down a sexless relationship with Tabitha, and there's also his, uh, unconventional relationship with Royco General Counsel Gerri.

What some seem to forget is that Roman was introduced with a girlfriend who had her own kid in the pilot episode — a plot that didn't stick. At first, writers toyed with giving him a wife and kids of his own, but that didn't pan out.

"I was excited about the idea of having a kid, and the kid was like seven or eight," Culkin said [via Variety]. "It was a little disappointing, but I think the idea was that it would just give them more freedom to play with the character."

And play they did, as Culkin himself isn't too sure what's up with Roman's sexuality either: "They had mentioned to me, even before we shot the pilot, about questioning what Roman's sexuality is — and we don't know what it is," he said.

He continued: "But it put something in my brain, and I was like, 'OK, but I'm married and have kids?' They were toying with the idea that she's aware that you have sort of hangups sexually when it comes to monogamy, and might be more fluid, but we don't know what that is yet."

As the previous seasons of Succession had only nine or 10 episodes each, and we're heading into Episode 6 of its final fourth season, the clock is ticking on us finding out the inner workings of Roman Roy.
