Dakota Johnson was one of the guests on Ellen this morning, and the actress opened up to the talk show host about what it was like when her co-star Shia LaBeouf was arrested during filming of The Peanut Butter Falcon.
LaBeouf was arrested in 2017 for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct in Savannah, GA, while the movie was still in production.
When asked, Johnson said that it was "sad" and that she felt "very protective of him" during the ordeal.
"That's a really terrifying and difficult journey for someone to experience, and I felt really aware of that," she continued.
"I don't condemn people for their mistakes, I want them to get through it. So that's what I tried to do."
Speaking out about his own arrest, LaBeouf previously told Esquire, "I'm a buffoon. My public outbursts are failures. They're not strategic. They're a struggling motherfucker showing his ass in front of the world."
