Live-action reboots of anime franchises have not exactly been successful, but that won't stop Hollywood from throwing money at any project that might turn a profit. That's why 2016's delightful Your Name is next on the docket for a live-action reboot.

The film, which is a true marvel of animation and storytelling, wound up being the top-grossing Japanese movie of all time after its release last year. That's the sort of thing that simply demands to be ruined by studio execs.

The live-action version of Your Name doesn't have a director just yet, but it's being produced by J.J. Abrams. Only time will tell what kind of whitewashing controversy potentially awaits when they announce the cast.

Makoto Shinkai, who wrote and directed the anime, is at least excited about the American version. In a statement, he said, "When such a work is imbued with Hollywood filmmaking, we may see new possibilities that we had been completely unaware of — I am looking forward to the live-action film with excited anticipation."

Stay tuned for more on the live-action Your Name as news becomes available.
