James Gunn Will Write (and Maybe Direct) 'Suicide Squad 2'

After Disney confirmed his departure from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise back in August, James Gunn is now reportedly in discussions to work on the next Suicide Squad film.

Deadline reports that Gunn has been hired by Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment to write and possibly direct Suicide Squad 2, a follow-up to the Academy Award-winning 2016 film helmed by David Ayer. i09 adds that Gunn "is reportedly taking a totally new approach to the property."

More shocking than the fact that Suicide Squad warranted a follow-up is the fact that Gunn is now making a move to a direct Marvel Studios rival in DC Entertainment.

Gunn was fired from directing Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in July of this year, after a host of right-wing web trolls dug up old tweets in which he joked about topics such as pedophilia and rape. The franchise's stars soon petitioned for Gunn to be reinstated.
