Jeremy Renner has shared a message from his hospital bed. Following a snowplow accident that left him in critical but stable condition, the Avengers actor posted a selfie and thanked fans for the support.

UPDATE (1/4, 10:45 a.m. ET): Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam made a statement about the incident, saying that Renner was attempting to retrieve a car after his family member got stuck in the snow. Balaam said, "Mr. Renner went to retrieve his PistenBully, or snowcat — an extremely large piece of snow-removal equipment weighing at least 14,330 pounds — in an effort to get his vehicle moving. After successfully towing his personal vehicle from its stuck location, Mr. Renner got out of his PistenBully to speak to his family member. At this point, it is observed that the PistenBully started to roll. In an effort to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner attempts to get back into the driver's seat of the PistenBully. Based on our investigation, it's at this point that Mr. Renner is run over by the PistenBully."

Foul play is not suspected, and it doesn't appear that Renner was impaired. Balaam called it a "tragic accident."

Renner wrote that he is "too messed up now to type," but wrote, "Thank you all for your kind words." In the image, his face is is visibly injured. He didn't offer any further update on his condition.

Renner was injured in a snowplow accident on New Year's Day near his home in Lake Tahoe. He was clearing a snowy road when his plow ran over his leg. He reportedly lost a lot of blood and suffered blunt chest trauma, as well as other injuries.
