It's almost cliche to point out how much modern life and all of its confusing horrors are reminiscent of an M. Night Shyamalan film. Still, the famed filmmaker is getting directly involved, teaming up with American presidential candidate Joe Biden for a new short film contest.
Participants are asked to submit a 90-second short film about voting. The questions they're asked to answer are: Why are you voting? How are you voting? Who do you want to encourage to vote? What's your voting story?
"This is such a historical moment that we're in and everyone has a crucial part to play," Shyamalan said. "Storytelling is at the nucleus of it. We need more (honest) stories about why people are voting or why they may be reluctant to vote. I'd like to be a catalyst for those stories to be told and hopefully inspire change as a result."
The contest is called #VoteByNight, and participants are asked to upload a video using that hashtag to Twitter or Instagram, or to upload the films straight to Joe Biden's website.
According to Biden's website, "The top 3 filmmakers that M. Night Shyamalan connects to will be invited to virtually meet up and talk about art, film and the power of storytelling with the director. Submissions will also have a chance to be featured in Biden-Harris digital programming!"
