Todd Phillips's Joker has been a dominant cultural force in 2019, raking up tons of buzz and over a billion at the box office. As such, it should come as no surprise that the film is getting a sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has signed off on a sequel to the film. Phillips is in talks to return as director and will likely return to write the film with his Joker writing partner Scott Silver.
Phillips is expected to earn a whopping $100 million USD from the first Joker film when all is said and done. Considering how much money this movie made everyone, it only makes sense that everyone would return for a sequel.
In addition to another Joker film, Phillips has signed on for another origin story from the DC universe. It's unclear whose story he will be developing, although it certainly won't be Batman. After all, that ball is in Matt Reeves's court.
UPDATE (11/20, 12:20 p.m. EDT): According to Deadline, no such sequel plans are in place. In fact, they went as far as calling The Hollywood Reporter's story "click bait." So now we don't know who to believe.
