All of that controversy surrounding Todd Phillips's Joker clearly paid off. After all, the film has become the most profitable comic book movie ever.
According to Forbes, the film will close in on $957 million USD at the worldwide box office by the end of today. Considering the fact that the Joaquin Phoenix movie only cost $62.5 million to make, the film has earned 15 times its cost.
As Forbes points out, that makes it the most profitable film in the comic book category. Venom previously ranked up there with an $854 million return on its $90 million budget. Similarly, Deadpool racked up $783 million on a $58 million cost.
Further, when Joker eventually breaks the $1 billion mark, the film will be the cheapest to ever do so.
