Kevin Smith Slams Warner Bros. for Shelving 'Batgirl': "It's an Incredibly Bad Look"

"I don't give a shit if the movie was absolute fucking dogshit"

Holy optics, Batman! Last week, it was revealed that, despite filming being complete, the $90-million Warner Bros. Batgirl movie (starring Leslie Grace, Brendan Fraser and Michael Keaton, among others) was being scrapped — and Kevin Smith is not impressed.

The comic writer and filmmaker addressed the company's decision in the latest episode of his YouTube series Hollywood Babble-On. Smith and Ralph Garman spend almost 20 minutes discussing the official word on the former's episode for DC's Strange Adventures getting cut "in all of the Warner Bros. Discovery entertainment debacle of the week," according to the episode description.

"It's an incredibly bad look to cancel the Latina Batgirl movie," Smith said. "I don't give a shit if the movie was absolute fucking dogshit — I guarantee you it wasn't."

"The two directors who directed that movie did a couple episodes of Ms. Marvel, and it was a wonderful fucking show," Smith continued, referring to Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who said they were "saddened and shocked" by the news, "and they had more money to do Batgirl than they had to do an episode of Ms. Marvel."

Garman chimed in: "And Warner Bros. should know they make a ton of shitty superhero movies that make a lot of money."

Titular star Grace was likewise taken aback, although the production company promised the decision was not a reflection of her performance; apparently, the film wasn't seen as being big enough to warrant a theatrical release, yet was too big of a project to be sent straight to the HBO Max streaming service.

Instead, it's been suggested that Warner Bros. will be writing off the movie for tax purposes in the brief window of opportunity created by their merger with Discovery — but Smith thinks there's more to the story.

"It feels like there's more than just like, 'We're gonna save $20 million,'" he said, adding: "Michael fucking Keaton came back as Batman and we're not going to get to see that!"

Smith went on to insinuate that something suspect might happen to The Flash next (though Keaton might not even notice).
