Earlier this month, former U.S. president Barack Obama came under fire for plotting a massive 60th birthday party amid growing COVID concerns south of the border. In response to fears about the spread of the Delta variant, the Obamas scaled back the event — and to Larry David's delight, he was among the names that didn't make the final cut.
Speaking with the New York Times, David shared that he was "relieved" upon learning that he was uninvited from the Obama's reportedly "lavish" Martha's Vineyard mansion shindig.
"I was pretty glum when I finally called back his assistant," David explained. "When he told me I was eighty-sixed from the party, I was so relieved, I screamed, 'Thank you! Thank you!' He must have thought I was insane."
After hearing the news, the 74-year-old comedian said — in classic Larry David fashion — that he then "hung up the phone, poured myself a drink and finished my crossword puzzle."
Don Cheadle, Erykah Badu, Beyoncé, JAY-Z, George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper and several other big-name guests managed to keep their spots at the August 7 event, while some of Obama's political affiliates reportedly got shafted. Hopefully, they also took solace in a nice crossword puzzle that night.
