Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone has added to the chorus of Indigenous voices criticizing and/or warning viewers of the film.
After red carpet remarks from one of the movie's Osage advisors and a statement from Reservation Dogs star Devery Jacobs criticizing how the Osage people were portrayed, Gladstone herself issued a thread on X (formerly Twitter) warning viewers to watch Killers of the Flower Moon only when they feel comfortable doing so.
"The most pressing thing I've wanted to say about Killers of the Flower Moon, especially to Native Women & Youth: See it when and only if you feel ready, and see it with people you feel safe with. You'll likely have a lot of generational grief to process. You're not alone," she wrote.
"I'm so proud of the film we made with so many Osage Nation leaders, artists, educators & community advocates. Never forget this story is recent history with a lasting impact on breathing, feeling people today. It belongs to them, & we all have so much to learn from it."
She proceeded to add several counselling and helpline resources to the thread.
Gladstone stars as Mollie Kyle, whose real-life family was slaughtered as a result of Bill Hale (Robert De Niro) and Ernest Burkhart's (Leonardo DiCaprio) plot to take their wealth.
