Pixar is coming to Canada. The beloved animation studio has just announced its next animated feature with Disney: Turning Red, a feature film set in Toronto.
The film is directed by Domee Shi, who won an Oscar for the Toronto-set short film Bao. Rosalie Chiang stars as a 13-year-old who transforms into a giant red panda anytime she gets excited, while Sandra Oh voices her overbearing mother.
Greg Mason, VP of Marketing for Walt Disney Studios Canada, offered this statement:
We are beyond thrilled that director Domee Shi chose her hometown of Toronto as the backdrop for her new feature film. With Ottawa native Sandra Oh lending her voice and a group of very talented Canadian artists on the filmmaking team, Turning Red truly is a love letter to Toronto and Canada. There are a couple of great Canadian Easter eggs in this trailer and we can't wait for Canadian audiences to see more when the film hits theatres next year.
Watch a trailer for Turning Red below. It's due out on March 11, 2022.
