Ron Howard Will Direct the Han Solo Movie

Earlier this week, it was revealed that director duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller would no longer be helming the forthcoming standalone Han Solo movie. After scouring the galaxy at hyperspeed, Lucasfilm has named Ron Howard as the new director of the film.

The announcement came through the Star Wars website today (June 22). The Academy Award-winning Howard needs little introduction, having films such as Apollo 13, A Beatiful Mind, the Da Vinci Code on his resume in addition to TV series Arrested Development.

"At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. "With that in mind, we're thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July."

The untitled Han Solo film is currently slated for release on May 25, 2018.
