'Silicon Valley' Poked Fun at Facebook's Russia Problem with a Sneaky Joke

Few shows have managed to capture the sheer ridiculousness of tech culture quite like Mike Judge's Silicon Valley, and the series maintained its razor sharp satire with last night's Season 5 premiere. As a handful of astute viewers have observed, a particularly pointed joke made its way into the opening credit sequence.

Soundtracked by TobaccoSilicon Valley always opens with an animated look at the various tech logos that populate the tech sector. This week, however, Facebook's logo looked entirely different.

Yes, the animator on the episode swapped out Facebook's regular logo with a Russian-inspired typeface. It's a subtle joke, to be sure, but undoubtedly a reference to Facebook's ongoing controversies involving "fake news" and Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 American election.

Check out the subtle sneak diss above.
