After sparking a huge amount of controversy over a tweet about President Donald Trump's 10-year-old son Barron, Saturday Night Live writer Katie Rich has been suspended indefinitely.
On inauguration day last Friday (January 20), Rich tweeted "Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter" — a joke that quickly led to a swift and vicious backlash online. She deleted the tweet within hours, but the damage was already done, as many demanded an apology and called on the NBC show to fire the writer.
SNL has yet to publicly address the incident, but Deadline reports Rich was suspended from the show immediately after her tweet, and the suspension is indefinite. She was not listed in the credits for Saturday's show.
Rich has since deleted all her tweets except an apology she posted this afternoon (January 23). You can see that tweet below.

I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I'm so sorry.
