'Sonic the Hedgehog' Appears to Be Getting His Own Netflix Show

Get ready for Sonic the Hedgehog to speed his way onto Netflix, as it appears the beloved video game icon is set to get a new 3D animated series on the streamer.

Netflix tweeted and then delete an announcement for the coming show, and thanks to a screenshot from IGN, you can see it below.

The tweet read: "Rings? Check. Sneakers? Check. Speed? SONIC. SEGA's legendary video game icon Sonic the Hedgehog races onto Netflix in a new 3D animated series from @SEGA, @WildBrainHQ and @ManOfActionEnt premiering in 2022."

However, with the tweet being quickly deleted, nothing is for certain right now. But as IGN points out, it's likely the announcement was meant to be made at the Game Awards later today, but someone mistakenly jumped the gun.

The tweet tagged children's TV media company Wild Brain (Teletubbies, Carmen Sandiego) and Man of Action Entertainment, creator of Ben 10 and Big Hero 6, so it's likely they are involved with the supposed series. For now, though, you'll have to stay tuned to see how this all shakes out.

Of course, the character recently got his own film, Sonic the Hedgehog, by Jeff Fowler, and a sequel is apparently on the way.
