Proving that it is really hard to kill a Terminator, we're now getting a new animated series from the long-running film franchise. While in its early stages, an anime Terminator series will be coming to Netflix.

So far no real plot details have been revealed, but Variety reports that Netflix has teamed up with Skynet Skydance to produce the upcoming animated series. It will be made in partnership with Production I.G, which previously worked on such animated Netflix series as Ghost in the Shell, B: The Beginning and Eden of the East.

"Terminator is one of the most iconic sci-fi stories ever created — and has only grown more relevant to our world over time," John Derderian, Netflix's vice-president of Japan and anime, said in a statement. "The new animated series will explore this universe in a way that has never been done before. We can't wait for fans to experience this amazing new chapter in the epic battle between machines and humans."

The series will find Mattson Tomlin — who recently worked on the screenplay for Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman — serving as showrunner and executive producer.

"Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart," Tomlin said. "I'm honoured that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts."

So far, it's unclear when the series may actually arrive on Netflix.
