The Toronto International Film Festival has updated its COVID-19 vaccine policy, announcing today it will require proof of vaccination or a negative test within 48 hours of all indoor events.
Festival staff, attendees and visitors will all be subject to the policy, including anyone entering any TIFF venues throughout the September festival. Masks will also be required at all venues and for individuals interacting with talent at red carpet events. Anyone not in compliance with the regulation will be denied entry and issued a refund where applicable.
Affected locations include the TIFF Bell Lightbox, Roy Thomson Hall, the Visa Screening Room at the Princess of Wales Theatre, Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, the Cinesphere IMAX Theatre and the West Island Open Air Cinema at Ontario Place. The festival's protocols will not extend to drive-in venues Visa Skyline Drive-In and RBC Lakeside Drive-In at Ontario Place.
"TIFF has taken great care and consideration in implementing these TIFF specific protocols to mitigate risk to audiences and guests attending TIFF," co-heads Joana Vicente and Cameron Bailey said in a release. "We have relied on municipal and provincial medical direction and advice on rapid testing and we expect this will provide another level of clarity and comfort for all 2021 Festival goers."
In addition to TIFF's vaccine and COVID test policies, the festival has also announced that printed tickets will be replaced by mobile tickets and that concessions will not be sold at indoor venues.
