Titanic [Blu-Ray]

Unless you were living under a rock in 1997, you most certainly would have seen, or at least heard of, James Cameron's Titanic. The film took the concept of "big budget" to a new level, costing $200 million to produce, which, at the time, no one thought could be recouped at the box office. The story is simple: boy meets girl on a boat; they're from different classes, so it's shocking; there's some drama; the boat sinks; he dies; and her heart goes on. Much to the surprise of naysayers, the film smashed expectations, remaining the number one film at the box office for 15 weeks. With the success of Cameron's 3D venture, Avatar, it's no wonder he's decided to go back and milk his original cash cow, converting Titanic to 3D and subsequently transferring it to Blu-Ray for re-release, thus squeezing the last drop from the teat of the cow (for now). Fortunately, Cameron's restoration and up-conversion are incredibly good, producing a visual spectacle that'll look incredible on any television (particularly higher-end sets). However, it's not the film that makes this Blu-Ray so grand, but the special features included in the box. With over six hours of bonus material, there's something for everyone in this set, covering every aspect of the film with intense detail. Ranging from the usual narrations and scene-by-scene breakdowns, individual featurettes that explore various aspects of the story, film and production, right up to a cast-produced home movie that explores the goofy side of filming and how much darn fun it was for them to be a part of Titanic, it is the special features of this Blu-Ray release that make this such an exceptional purchase.
