This weekend, select cities will be treated to James Franco's The Disaster Artist, a fantastic film about the making of Tommy Wiseau's The Room. Both directors appeared together on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Wiseau dropped a bombshell.
As discussed in our cover story, Wiseau has always told people he's from New Orleans. On Kimmel, however, the mysterious movie-maker and jeans salesman finally admitted that he's from Europe.
"I'm originally from Europe," Wiseau said. "I'm, right now, American like everybody else. Long story short, I used to grow up in New Orleans, LA. People ask me, where you come from, right? So what do you want to do, which country do you pick? Well, I pick New Orleans."
It was a strangely transparent moment from Wiseau, who is notoriously guarded about his origin story. "Wait, wait — this is big news!" Franco exclaimed. "He has never said this before."
Watch the interview below.
The Disaster Artist opens in Toronto on December 1 and across Canada on December 8.
