Trailer Park Boys: Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys

This DVD is an odd, but somehow satisfying, release, containing the last Trailer Park Boys episode (running 47 minutes) and padded with a lot of alternate and deleted scenes, plus some behind-the-scenes footage. Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys is the bridge between the renowned TV series (one of the funniest shows Canada ever produced), broadcasted months after season seven ended, but nearly a year before the second, and final TPB movie Countdown To Liquor Day. This is a fun double-length episode, but lacks a punch at the end. Essentially, Ricky, Julian and Bubbles were stashing ill-gotten cash until their nemesis (former park supervisor Him Lahey) uncovered it and accidentally had the cops take it all away. The boys are broke again, but Ricky has to deal with Randy (of all people) raising a baby with his beloved Lucy. With cash and confidence, Lahey has the trio by the balls and hires them to run a dirty dancing club party where Bubbles churns out baloney sandwiches, J-Roc spins country records and Ricky openly sells joints. The boys plan to rip off Lahey, while Lahey schemes to get them out of the Sunnyvale trailer park for a long, long time. There's a good, long build-up, but no bang at the end, which does set up the second movie. And J-Roc (Jonathan Torrens) nearly steals the show. What redeems this DVD are the extras, starting with the dozens of alternate and deleted scenes, and the real-life glimpses on the set where we briefly see our boys steps out of character. Some of the castaways are funny, but there are no revelations. In my book, the first three seasons of Trailer Park Boys are much better.
