No stranger to enormous and near-impossible projects, filmmaker Werner Herzog has been enlisted to help the History channel make 100 documentaries.
The project is simply called History 100, but unfortunately they haven't hired Herzog to handle all of the films. He's contributing one, and he'll be joined by filmmakers like Barbara Kopple, Charles Ferguson and Daniel Junge.
The 100 films will focus on documenting notable people and events from the last century.
"The only way to understand today is to see it in the context of yesterday and History is committed to scouring the past for the most gripping, fascinating stories," said History's exec VP of programming Eli Lehrer. "Our dynamic and diverse array of award-winning storytellers will bring the history of the past 100 years to life through the fresh voices and perspectives in these groundbreaking documentaries."
Herzog's contribution to the series has the working title of Meeting Gorbachev. It chronicles Mikhail Gorbachev's life through a series of one-on-one interviews with Herzog.
Other topics explored in the doc series include the Iran Hostage Crisis, the first would-be female astronauts, the rise of the videogame industry, the rivalry between Coke and Pepsi and the Nazis' rampant drug use. Naturally, familiar topics like 9/11 and Watergate will also be explored.
The series doesn't have a launch date just yet, but you'd be wise to catch up on all the other documentaries you wanted to see before you're hit with 100 more.
