Quebecois wunderkind Xavier Dolan achieved global acclaim for his film Mommy, but you may have missed out on some of it if you caught it on Netflix in the UK. One of the film's most unique and important elements was the way Dolan used aspect ratio in his story, and the service has botched it all by changing the screen size.
The film famously displayed in a square aspect ratio, occasionally opening up to a widescreen 1.85:1 aspect ratio. As they've done with other films in the past, however, Netflix's UK chapter changed the aspect ratio to make the whole film fill the screen.
Understandably pissed, Dolan blasted the service with an open letter on Twitter:
Fortunately, Netflix UK was quick to respond to the matter, restoring the aspect ratio within hours.
