You're a Good Sport, Charlie Brown

It's no A Charlie Brown Christmas but You're a Good Sport, Charlie Brown, written by Charles M. Schulz and produced by long-time collaborators Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez, is still one of the better Peanuts specials, of which there were over 75. Inspired by his son Craig's love of Motocross, Schulz's Emmy-winning 1975 ode to good sportsmanship stands the test of time, even if Charlie Brown's use of a pumpkin as a helmet might freak out today's hyper-safety conscious parents. Without giving too much away, our slow and steady hero does better than expected against the likes of the mysterious "Masked Marvel" and Peppermint Patty but in typical Charlie Brown fashion, he never quite comes out on top. Special features include You're the Greatest, Charlie Brown, another sports-themed special from 1979, and all-new featurette "Dust Yourself Off and Pick Yourself Up, Charlie Brown," which includes an interview with son Craig Schulz and archival footage to describe how Sparky's love of sports influenced his writing.
