Zac Efron reportedly almost died over the holidays after contracting a "form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection" shortly before Christmas.
The actor, 32, apparently fell ill in Papua New Guinea, and he was flown to hospital in Brisbane, Australia. According to the Sunday Telegraph [via the Daily Mail], it was a "life-or-death flight," but he was in "stable condition" by the time he was admitted to Brisbane's St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital.
Following a few days of treatment, Efron was cleared to return to the U.S. on Christmas Eve.
Efron contracted the illness while filming a survival documentary called Killing Zac Efron. The show is said to follow Efron as he embarks on an off-the-grid adventure with only basic survival supplies.
As of press time, Efron hasn't updated any of his social media accounts since the incident.
