16 Horsepower to Issue Two-Disc Retrospective Comp

While these days gothic cowboy David Eugene Edwards keeps his spooked-out Americana tunes for his Wovenhand project, he does occasionally revisit his work with his ’90s outfit 16 Horsepower. Following last year’s reissue of Secret South, the troupe are returning with a two-disc best-of collection that will serve up fan favourites, as well as some harder-to-find moments from their back catalogue.

A press release explains that the double-disc Yours Truly is split up into two different factions. The first groups a number of tracks selected by fans through an online poll, while the second platter showcases alternate versions, demo tracks, B-sides and other unreleased recordings accumulated over the years. The double-LP and double-CD package comes with a deluxe booklet featuring lyrics, rare photos and artwork.

While Alternative Tentacles is set to drop the collection this January, many of the tracks originally appeared on 16 Horsepower’s releases on A&M records, many of which are now long out of print.

Fans of all things ol’ timey take note: As far as alt-Americana goes, perhaps none were more convincing than the sinister, rustic sounds of 16 Horsepower. Edwards’s darkened gospel croon is worth the price of admission alone.

Yours Truly will be released by Alternative Tentacles on January 31.
