The Polaris Music Prize has named the winner of its 2022 award for best Canadian album: José Louis and the Paradox of Love by Pierre Kwenders.
José Louis and the Paradox of Love beat out a short list of 10 nominated albums including Destroyer's LABYRINTHITIS, Lisa LeBlanc's Chiac Disco, Hubert Lenoir's PICTURA DE IPSE : Musique directe, Kelly McMichael's Waves, OMBIIGIZI's Sewn Back Together, Ouri's Frame of a Fauna, Shad's TAO, Snotty Nose Rez Kids' Life After and Charlotte Day Wilson's ALPHA.
That list of 10 had been narrowed down from the long list of 40 by a Canada-wide jury of journalists and other industry professionals, with the final winner being chosen by a grand jury of 11.
The night featured performances from all of the short-list nominees except Destroyer (who was replaced on the bill by Fresh Pepper). The event took place at the Carlu in Toronto.
This is the 17th year of the Polaris Music Prize. Last year's award was won by Cadence Weapon for his album Parallel World.
