3 Inches of Blood Get Their Own Nike Kicks

You can't create truly enduring, caustic, obliterating heavy metal without the right footwear. That's why Nike Shoes offshoot Nike 6.0 (a division dedicated to designing shoes for active, action sports fanatics and apparently power chord mongers) has teamed up with none other than New Wave Of British Heavy Metal/thrash-disciples Three Inches Of Blood to create decimating duds for our tootsies.

Dubbed the Blood Oncore High, the shoe - much like most of the Canadian heavy metal outfit's tunes - is inspired by Viking folklore and mythical carnage. Painstaking care was taken by both band and product team to ensure the Blood Oncore High features custom materials and colours, so that it boasts an upper constructed with "premium distressed battle-worn leather mixed with sanguine accents and the muted greens of rot and pestilence. Metallic side panels simulate armour and warrior-shields, while the blood-red outsole and tongue are an ode to the band's name," as Nike 6.0 notes.

You may laugh, but with everyone from The Ramones to Slayer, Circle Jerks, Motorhead and Iron Maiden having some sort of sole support, it's about time the underdog got a new set of kicks. The Blood Oncore High drops May 1 at select retailers. And how did this all happen anyway?

"The collaboration idea came directly from a few of our athletes who are obsessed with metal and Three Inches Of Blood," says Nike product manager Tim Reede. "The band was down for anything and even flew out to an event for a secret show. The kids went ballistic in the pit and were beyond psyched to meet and hang with the band after their performance. It was amazing to be able to bring everyone together and create some chaos!"

Getting back to music, the band's debut album Battlecry Under A Winter Sun was re-released by Sonic Unyon this year and they are currently rumoured to be discussing options with Century Media Records regarding a new deal following their departure from Roadrunner Records.
