The first major phase of AC/DC's career began way back in 1974, when now late vocalist Bon Scott joined the group. This means that 2014 marks their 40th anniversary, and the group will be observing it with a tour and a new album.
"It's been 40 years of the band's existence," frontman Brian Johnson told 98.7 The Gater [via Ultimate Classic Rock]. "So I think we're gonna try to do 40 gigs, 40 shows, to thank the fans for their undying loyalty."
As for the new album plans, he added, "Really, because we've been denying anything, 'cause we weren't sure... But I think we'll be going into the studio in May in Vancouver. Which means, we should be getting ready."
Part of the reason for the band's inactivity in recent years is that one of the members has been suffering from an illness, although the specifics are unknown. Assuming that AC/DC follow through on their plans for a new album, it will be their first since 2008's Black Ice.
Last year, reports emerged that Angus and Malcolm Young were working on new material, but the outfit's plans hadn't been solidified.
