AIDS Wolf to Deliver New Double Album

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 9, 2011

Since 2003, Montreal-based noise rock outfit AIDS Wolf have assaulted ears via atonal guitar stabs, metronome-ignoring drum beats and singer Chloe Lum's slightly disinterested death wail. Considering their grinding, headache-inducing back catalogue, news of an upcoming double album will likely overwhelm even the most devout fan, but a press release explains that the forthcoming Ma Vie Banale Avant Garde is taking the band in a new direction.

According to the press sheet, the massive 24-song set finds the troupe shifting from their usual raucous affairs to "a sound more focused on polyrhythm and flowing, elastic tempos." While the band haven't abandoned screeching sonics, "fields of dissonant guitar and demented, lurching tempos, on further listens, give way to pixelated pop forms albeit with a detuned loner dinosaur in its spotlight."

The LP, their fourth overall, was recorded and produced by the group at the Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, WA. Like previous releases, it found them referencing "improvised passages off blown out cassette tapes" that were then reworked in the studio. Check out the tracklisting below and the cover above.

Ma Vie Banale Avant Garde comes out October 4 on Lovepump United. The band will also be playing a record release show in their hometown before heading out on the road. According to the band's Facebook page, the record release show at Musée d'art contemporain de Montreal will feature 3D projections. Make sure you bring your special glasses.
