Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Phil Spector. Not only is the pioneering "wall of sound" producer in prison after being found guilty of murder in 2009, he's apparently suffering from very ill health and has lost his voice.
This is according to Spector's lawyer, Chuck Sevilla, who told UK newspaper the Mirror that the producer hasn't said a word for the better part of a year. This has resulted in him being moved to California Health Care Facility in Stockton, CA, having previously been held in Corcoran prison.
Sevilla said, "He was moved within the last year to a new prison hospital in Stockton. He's very frail. I believe he is able to walk, he's lost a lot of weight, he's been unable to speak for nine months due to polyps in his throat which they keep telling him they're going perform surgery on, which they have not done. That's just one of his many maladies. He's in his 70s and he was not in the best condition going in."
The lawyer said that the prison is withholding information about Spector's health, and he vowed to write to the warden. Sevilla added, "Can you imagine being in a prison and you need help and you can't speak? It's very dangerous."
This isn't the first time that Spector has run into trouble in the clink, since he was apparently beat up in 2010. He's currently serving 19 years over the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson.
