Alana Yorke

"Anthem"

Haligonian songstress Alana Yorke recently announced plans for her debut LP Dream Magic, and now she's unveiled an aural preview of what's to come with the new single "Anthem."

The piano-pop number starts off slowly and simply, before growing into a dramatic affair, bolstered by thunderous drums and Yorke's alluring vocals. She's previously cited musical influences like Kate Bush, Gowan and Enya, and traces of each trickle through on the new tune.

"'Anthem' is about knowing what is important in life, believing in yourself, and following your dreams," said Yorke in a statement about the meaning behind the single. "It's about finding other people to create magic with, and doing what it is that you love against all odds, against all logic, and against all of the voices that tell you that you need to give up or do something else. It's about persevering and believing that anything is possible if we keep singing together. And all of us can sing."

Dream Magic is due out on January 20 and was mixed with Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Owen Pallett, Timber Timbre).
