Dreamy Montreal songwriter Alicia Clara has returned with "Nothing Dazzled," her first new material since 2022's Velveteen EP.
The song dates back to spring 2021, when pandemic lockdowns were still in place, and Clara had a vivid dream about an earthquake in Montreal. She said in a statement, "The song captures the restless energy of a moment in time where life felt muted. It was inspired in part by a passage from American author Eve Babitz's book Eve's Hollywood, in which she laments a "stock summer during which nothing dazzled."
Chris Steward, a member of Bodywash, produced the track and added lots of effects and distortion to the guitars, making this Clara's most rock-focused track. A press release cites influences including Soccer Mommy, Alvvays, Widowspeak and Julia Jacklin
Check out the song's VHS music video, directed by Roxane Loumède, below. Clara's debut full-length is set for fall 2025.
