Alicia Hush

Primed excellently by Larry James and then Tonepushers, Toronto's Alicia Hush (also one half of Hushlamb) didn't take long to get the crowd dancing to her funky, deliciously minimal and wonky tech house laden with amusing samples from unexpected sources. The first track sampled a woman's voice -- presumably from an infomercial or daytime TV show -- talking about canning and using Mason jars. Hush's set built at a steady and confident pace, the crowd in the park doubling to capacity only a few tracks in. Getting funkier as the set went on, she retained the audience's attention throughout and got more banging and a little darker towards the end. A consistently great live performer, Hush rose to the occasion and played a great set.
