Alien Ant Farm

TruANT

BY Amber AuthierPublished Oct 1, 2003

My disappointment with this CD has little to do with any kinship I felt towards Alien Ant Farm but that producers Dean and Robert DeLeo (better known as the guitarist and bassist for Stone Temple Pilots) couldn’t pull anything more inspiring out of this quartet. There are small sparks throughout the disc like the pop-laden "Glow” and the Western/dark comedy-inspired "Never Meant.” But tracks like the Latin-flavoured "Tia Loupe” crosses the line from cute candy pop to just plain poop. I guess one thing that also clouded my opinion of TruANT before popping it into the player for a spin was that I was under the impression that being in a near fatal bus crash would lead to more inspired songwriting. That is still a life altering experience, no?
