That old saying of "if it's not broken, don't fix it" sure bodes well for Amon Amarth's latest. Their style of Viking death metal has not changed at all since their 2001 album Crusher, even down to the artwork. That said, their newest effort takes a step upwards in the songwriting department and offers meatier guitar riffs. They remain simplistic in delivery, yes, but their sheer intensity could move mountains. In a way, they are a lot like Bolt Thrower, creating epic sounding slabs of war metal that aren't going to set the world on fire but are enjoyable nonetheless.
