Amy Campbell

Amy Campbell has left herself wide open. Her songs are written about a lot of lost and sometimes unrequited love. The Halifax-bred artist’s greatest charm is in her ability to convey the message. Her compositions and chord progressions are straightforward, allowing an emphasis for the storyline. She’s able to point out all the insignificances that make up the moment. And although she is a classically trained pianist, Campbell performs with her guitar. The acoustic provides a pace to each of her songs; the result demonstrates the real presence a solo performer can provide. Formerly, Campbell was the singer/guitarist of Halifax duo Stumble, which derived an Indigo Girls sound. But on Architecture, recorded live late last year at the Lunenburg Opera House in Nova Scotia, these seven tracks convey a love/hate theme throughout, like a purging for the emotionally distraught.
