The new Outkast album is like a rap music oasis that always seems to be right on the horizon but never materializes. Big Boi promised back in 2009 that "the album is coming," but despite a lot of more rumours, we still haven't heard anything concrete. Now, Big Boi's Outkast partner Andre 3000 has spoken out, and it turns out that the album doesn't exist at all.
"There's been a lot of talk on the Internet about an Outkast album and I have to say that as of now, there are no plans for another Outkast album," Andre said in an interview with GQ [via Consequence of Sound]. "I really don't know if or when that will happen."
Uhh, what? What happened to the album that Big Boi previously said was "on fire"? Or those three LPs they planned? Talk about a disappointment.
Outkast haven't released an album since 2006's Idlewild. Meanwhile, Andre said that he has an album of his own on the way, but that an official announcement is still a ways off.
"I think I'm planning to do a solo project. I don't know when it will come out, but hopefully it'll come out this year," he said. "The only thing I can really say is I'm going to get back to having fun because that's what it was all about when I started this in high school -- with Outkast -- those were like high school dreams. I'm 36 now, so I have grown-man dreams. This album will just be me being myself as normal."
We'd like to believe you Andre, but given Outkast's track record, we're going to hold off getting excited until we have some solid information.
Meanwhile, Andre recently popped up on "DoYaThing," a new Converse-sponsored track with Gorillaz and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy. Listen below.
