Another City Now

Originally from Halifax, NS, but now residing in Montreal, Ango releases his debut EP this month on Scottish label LuckyMe. Another City Now presents warm digital audio combined with retro synths and processed live vocals, delivering R&B soul sounds with elements of new wave and indie rock. "Follow Me" builds well, layering sparkly synths with expressive vocals, while "Looking For Love" brings punctuated funk flavour while still packing dreamy pop sounds. Definitely feeling the retro appeal, Ango creates with elements of '90s pop and R&B. "Love Me" starts on an offbeat tribal note that isn't quite cohesive, and while the track builds in the direction of contemporary R&B, and is emotionally heartfelt, it could use a stronger connection in all the variant elements. "Better For You" simplifies and focuses – expressive vocals and deep music taken on a classic house spin. This is furthered even more prominently on the gorgeous "What You Lose," a sincere mix of bass beats and the kind of genuine singing girls love. This solid debut suggests many more good things to come.
