After some four years of delays, Annies long-awaited Dont Stop appears to have hit yet another roadblock. Via a MySpace blog post, the Nordic pop princess has informed us that her sophomore effort is now label-less, announcing shes split from her home of Island Records.
As previously reported, Annies Dont Stop was last scheduled to be out via Island on January 26, after being pushed back from a previous 2008 release date. But now it appears the album, which is produced by Xenomania (Girls Aloud) and Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Sam Sparro) and features guest stars like Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos and Datarock, is without any firm street date or even a label to represent it.
Heres Annie creatively punctuated and grammatically-challenged post on the split:
Also had a meeting with Island record last week. I..ve been bit upset, cuz they never wanted to come up with a release date of Dont Stop. I think it..s a great label, but I never felt they were that positive to my ideas...so we decided that we..re not gonna work together anymore. After Nick Gatfield, who was the head of Island left the label...a couple of months after I signed, things changed. I'm an artist with lots of ideas, plans...so I..m gonna do things my own way from now on.
At least there will be much more Annie records/songs coming out next year then 2008...Already very first week of 2009,I..m coming out with a song called ÁNTHONIO.. that I hope you..ll be into....it..s gonna be out on Richard X..s label [Black Melody]...so watch out!!!
I think Island are great...it just wasn..t the place for me........no hard feelings, the show will go on......the Annie caravan will keep on moving, and the dogs..ll keep on barking:-)
While things seem more uncertain than ever now for Dont Stop, Black Melody has confirmed the label is releasing a new Annie single, which it spells "Antonio not "Anthonio on the label site. However, the label says its still without a confirmed release date.
