Annie has emerged to shed some more light on her ridiculously long-awaited Don't Stop album, which apparently has swelled into 60-something songs and may come as two separate records.
In a new interview with Billboard, the Nordic songstress said that the album, originally slated as a 12-track release in 2008, has become much bigger than she first anticipated, adding that she's completed nearly 60 songs for the new record. "It's sort of a template," she said of the original 12-track version of Don't Stop. "I actually have enough for two albums, so I don't know if I'm going to put out the one as it is, and one right after, or just some songs as [Don't Stop] with a couple that no one's heard. But I want to release a lot [this] year."
However, following a fallout with her label, Island Records, Annie still is unsure who will release her album, or albums. "I own the masters, so I can do whatever I want to do. I might do it myself, on my own label," she told Billboard. "We're talking to people too. There's so much happening in the business right now. In a way, I feel to do things on your own, you're in control. I've always been this sort of artist that people don't know how to categorize me and what to do with me."
As she previously said on her MySpace blog, Annie confirmed that things went sour with Island after the label's UK president Nick Gatfield left the company. "It's just difficult, when you first work with someone and you have a vision and an idea of what you want to do, and suddenly you're working with someone who doesn't care about anything at all," she said.
In the interview, Annie gave no firm release date for Don't Stop, but said she hoped it would come out sometime in 2009, adding that the new singles "My Love Is Better" and "Anthonio" (due out on Richard X's Black Melody imprint) would be out in the first quarter of this year. In the meantime, she's apparently building a home studio in Berlin, designing the artwork for the singles and toying with the idea of a European and North American tour.
