The Antlers Detail 'Undersea' EP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 6, 2012

When the Antlers unveiled Undersea earlier this week, they did so with a cryptic trailer that stopped short of explaining what the release actually is. Now, the Brooklyn indie rock trio have revealed that Undersea is in fact an EP.

While the collection only includes four songs, the band promise that this is much more ambitious than your average short-form release. According to a press release, Undersea is "an EP in length, but well beyond that in scope."

The band offered the following statement about the evidently very serene mini-release:

It begins in the dream of a peaceful flood. Water covers everything and rises. We take a deep breath in and a slow breath out. Everything is changed.

Time slows and stretches as a connectedness washes over everything. We're left treading water, backstroking into the future.

Undersea is the feeling of suspension -- memories suspended in time and space, energy suspended in the air around us. It's the serenity of drifting off to sleep or of sinking to the bottom of the ocean. It's both the comfort of knowing that some questions have no answers, and the torment that we're never meant to know the truth.

We've searched for patient, colourful sounds and found a meditative calm, a persistent pulse that leaves room for everything to breathe and expand as a new world takes shape.

There is no hurry.

See the tracklist below and the artwork above. As previously reported, Undersea will be the band's first release for Anti-, as they have jumped ship from Frenchkiss, and it will be out July 24. The minute-long trailer is at the bottom of the page.

Scroll past the tracklist to check out the band's live schedule. It includes Canadian festival appearances in Calgary and Winnipeg later this month.
